Car Assistance Program For Single Mothers

Single mothers are some of the bravest and most hardworking individuals. They raise and look after their children while simultaneously earning a living to provide for them. Cars are necessary to get around, and having access to one helps single moms get through their day with less stress.

However, not all single moms can afford the cost of owning a car, as many struggles to make ends meet. As such, several government and private organizations are dedicated to providing single moms access to reliable transportation, including owning and maintaining a car.

Check out this car assistance program for single mothers.

Free Cars for Single Moms

These are free car assistance programs for single mothers.

Carsformoms.org

CarsForMoms is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help single parents become self-sufficient and “be there” for their kids. With a car, single moms can attend to their child’s activities, drive them through emergencies, easily run errands, go to work, and more.

The organization accepts car donations and uses them to provide free vehicles and public transportation to single moms. Donations are tax-deductible, which encourages many generous patrons to give used vehicles.

To qualify for the program, you must be nominated on their website, and they’ll evaluate your need before awarding a free vehicle. Optionally, you can also take advantage of their free ride-sharing programs.

Newgate School Wheels For Women

Single mothers in Minnesota can go to Newgate School for a free car. As long as you’ve lived in the area for at least a year and have dependent children, you can apply to their Wheels for Women program and receive a refurbished vehicle.

The school believes that single mothers are doing everything they can to sustain their families and survive, and a free car is one way to help them. Application is easy through their secure online form, and as long as you meet their qualifications, there’s a huge chance you’d get approved.

Other eligibility criteria include having an annual income below $35,000, a valid State of Minnesota driver’s license, and having school-age children enrolled.

Good Neighbor Garage

For single mothers in Denver, the Good Neighbor Garage provides several vehicle-related services to help them become self-sufficient. These programs include vehicle placement, vehicle maintenance and repairs, and vehicle education.

The organization accepts donated cars they repair and award to eligible single moms. They pride themselves on directly impacting the Denver community since every car donated is matched with a single mom in need. In the case of cars that can’t be repaired, they will sell these vehicles and use the funds to help women in need.

1-800-Charity Cars

This organization is America’s #1 car donation charity that has been around since 1996. They help low-income individuals, including single mothers, people with disabilities, veterans, and other individuals who need a car but can’t afford one.

To apply for the program, visit their website and complete their form. A representative will be in touch to check your qualifications.

Working Cars for Working Families

The National Consumer Law Center helps working families, including working single moms, buy and finance a car by matching them with the best non-profits that can provide for their needs. The Workings Cars for Working Families was created to ensure low-income families have access to reliable transportation at all times.

NCLC’s extensive network allows single moms from anywhere in the US to find a local program near them that can quickly give them a free vehicle.

You can visit their website to find a program or learn more about what’s available in your area.

Low-Cost Cars for Single Moms

In case there are no suitable programs in your area, or you fail to qualify to get a free vehicle, you can still purchase cars for less than their usual amount. Check out these options:

Craigslist

Personal online ads websites, where people post the items they’re selling, are great ways to find an affordable car. Just be careful of dealing with the seller because there are a lot of scammers who can trick you into releasing your money without offering a legitimate vehicle.

Before completing any online transaction, ensure you’ve seen the vehicle and assessed its condition.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army collects every unused item, including unused cars. They auction donated cars and you need to register in advance to get a slot. However, they don’t repair the cars on auction, and it’s up to you to gauge how much repair you’d spend to get the car running.

Cars are a necessity especially in areas where public transportation are limited. For single moms, having a car will greatly lift some of their burdens and be a fantastic way to ensure they are present for their kids at all times. Fortunately, there is a car assistance program for single mothers available at any place.
